What is hell?

It’s like asking what’s the worst thing – there’s no simple answer. All I can tell you is that turning up to something, day in, day out, and being surrounded by people who treat you with a mixture of contempt and indifference is one of the worst things I’ve experienced.

Being alone does not literally mean being by yourself. It more often means being surrounded by other people who don’t give a damn about you – and make that fact abundantly clear in everything they say, do, or don’t say and don’t do.

Hell is not whips and chains – it is isolation and the icy absence of love.
