Shore’s End

When there was only me

I’d come here

To the beach and to the sea

And tread the pier

To peer at the world’s edge

To learn its secrets

And to see that nothing goes away

Now of course there is no pier

And the beach teems

With ticking grains of sand

The sea engulfs it

We search and do not find

The things before we peered

At the edge of the world
